Container Transportation


Rail transport is one of the most environment-friendly transport mode, especially when referring to freight transportation. Rail freight transportation consumes up to ten times less fuel than road transport. Along with the continuous improvement of the European Union legal system and its financial support, the conditions to develop environment-friendly rail transport business and to improve technical and organizational mechanisms of interaction between rail transport with other modes of transport are created.
In this context, Lithuanian Railways (LTG) can rejoice at the successful outcome of the development of container trains. The company can now offer a wide range portfolio of container train services for its existing and potential customers. The destinations of freight transportation and logistics services includes European and Asian markets.
Currently Lithuanian Railways' container train services include:

  • Amber Train (Šeštokai/Kaunas - Riga - Talinn (Mugga)). 

  • Containerships Train  (Klaipėda (Draugystė) - Kiev (Brovary));

  • Merkurijus (Kaliningrad/Klaipeda – Moscow);

  • Nemunas (Kaunas (Palemonas) – Vilnius (Paneriai) – Minsk (Koliadichi) – Vilnius (Paneriai) – Kaunas (Palemonas));

  • Saulė (Chongqing (China) - Antverpen (Belgium), by transit via Šeštokai (Lithuania));

  • Šeštokai Express (Poland - Lithuania - Belarus - Russia);

  • Viking Train (Klaipeda - Minsk - Kiev - Ilyichevsk /Odessa);

  • Vilnius Shuttle (Draugystė - Paneriai);
